union with Jesus

I can or I cannot do

I like the way Father puts conundrums in His Word for us to puzzle over. Here is one that has always puzzled me.

For when I am weak them am I strong….

The reason why it puzzles me and so many others is that we are conditioned to think of ourselves as capable and able and strong. We are also taught that Jesus was super, able, strong and mighty–GOD THE SON .

Yet the other part of this puzzle is that Jesus Himself said in all sincerity

Most assuredly I say to you , the Son can do nothing of Himself,..John 5:19

So we have Jesus saying

John 5:30  I can of Myself do nothing.

and Paul saying

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Php 4:13

So Jesus of his own self can(not just could- past tense)do NOTHING. It is the FATHER who does the doing–HE IS THE SOURCE OF POWER not Jesus.

And Paul says the same thing….

I can ….through CHRIST….

Jesus says I CAN THROUGH FATHER.

Paul learned that thoroughly that he of his own self COULD DO NOTHING. But that he is not on his own ….in fact that old I died –I no longer live–but Christ lives in me….and the life I now live…Hang on Paul!

Gal 2:19  For I through the law died to the law that I might live to God.
Gal 2:20  I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live,
but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

The NEW I

The new I that you are now that Jesus lives inside your spirit lives by HIS FAITH.

What is HIS FAITH? The faith of the son of God…what is it?

It is this—-The son can do nothing of Himself but what he sees the Father do!!

Jesus DID NOTHING –ABSOLUTELY NOTHING OF HIMSELF….despite what theologians say He is not GOD THE SON….

Jesus is the son of God – big difference.

Putting Jesus up as a super Christ–a super man —able to do anything and everything is not what is revealed in Scripture.

We could never be like Jesus if that is the case.

Jesus needs the Father every moment….and Father is fully expresses as Jesus in Jesus and through Jesus every moment forever.

The same for you friend

You need Jesus to live inside your spirit–to be the LINK MAN –THE MEDIATOR BETWEEN God and yourself….TO BE THE STRENGTH YOU HAVE NONE OF.

That is why Jesus said in John 14:20

John 14:20  At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.

SOME VERSES TO PONDER

2Co 11:23  Are they ministers of Christ?—I speak as a fool—I am more: in labors more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequently, in deaths often.
2Co 11:24  From the Jews five times I received forty stripes minus one.
2Co 11:25  Three times I was beaten with rods; once I was stoned; three times I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I have been in the deep;
2Co 11:26  in journeys often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils of my own countrymen, in perils of the Gentiles, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren;
2Co 11:27  in weariness and toil, in sleeplessness often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness—
2Co 11:28  besides the other things, what comes upon me daily: my deep concern for all the churches.
2Co 11:29  Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is made to stumble, and I do not burn with indignation?
2Co 11:30  If I must boast, I will boast in the things which concern my infirmity/weaknesses/inabilities

2Co 12:1  It is doubtless not profitable for me to boast. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord:
2Co 12:2  I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago….
2Co 12:5  Of such a one I will boast; yet of myself I will not boast, except in my infirmities/weaknesses/inabilities.
2Co 12:6  For though I might desire to boast, I will not be a fool; for I will speak the truth. But I refrain, lest anyone should think of me above what he sees me to be or hears from me.
2Co 12:7  And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure.
2Co 12:8  Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me.
2Co 12:9  And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness/infirmities/inabilities.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities/weaknesses/inabilities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
2Co 12:10  Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities/weaknesses/inabilities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Php 4:11  Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content:
Php 4:12  I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.
Php 4:13  I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

  1. My understanding is that there is only one God, expressed in three persons, or manifestations: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

    John 1:1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

    John 1:14
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

    John 10:30 (Jesus is speaking):
I and my Father are one.

    John 14:9
Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father?
