In view of the current situation I appeal to God for His intervention. This time is like the days of the Divided Kingdom when the children of Israel were at war with Judah and Benjamin. Never forget that God loved the House of Israel and sometimes favoured them even though they went astray. God loved Judah and gave them victory only when they sought the LORD and relied upon Him.
Read through the History books of the Bible and see king pitted against king, people against people. See one people worshiping God in the prescribed way and another people forsaking and worshiping demons and calf idols. (2Chron 11:15)
Yet this was ONE people. One people split into two factions. One people now split and divided into two opposing peoples with two opposing kings.
Each people having their own ideology and form of expression. Each people and king willing to kill the opposition because of the differences they believe are there.
When Abijah king of Judah cried to the LORD as his army of 400,000 was surrounded in an ambush by Jeroboam’s army of 800,000 God gave help to Abijah and Judah slaughtered 500,000 stout men of Israel.
500,000 KILLED in a civil war between brothers from Jacobs family
Things are not any different today.
Neither side is RIGHT.
And just because one side may be more right than the other is not the issue with God.
When a huge army came against Rehoboam king of Judah the prophet spoke..
5 Then Shemaiah the prophet came to Rehoboam and the leaders of Judah, who were gathered together in Jerusalem because of Shishak, and said to them, “Thus says the Lord: ‘You have forsaken Me, and therefore I also have left you in the hand of Shishak.’ ” 2 Chr12
You have forsaken Me…therefore!!
So Rehoboam and the team of leaders with him repented and DECLARED OUT LOUD IN PUBLIC their dependence upon the LORD.
6 So the leaders of Israel and the king humbled themselves; and they said, “The Lord is righteous.”
7 Now when the Lord saw that they humbled themselves, the word of the Lord came to Shemaiah, saying, “They have humbled themselves; therefore I will not destroy them, but I will grant them some deliverance. My wrath shall not be poured out on Jerusalem by the hand of Shishak. 8 Nevertheless they will be his servants, that they may distinguish My service from the service of the kingdoms of the nations.”
WHEN they declared that THE LORD IS RIGHTEOUS God saw and God heard.
You see –When we fight against “the other side” because we think WE ARE RIGHT and they ARE WRONG – we have DEPARTED from the LORD.
No one is right –all have sinned and fallen short..ALL!! Not just before you were born again…but NOW. Without God and Jesus you are constantly FALLING SHORT.
They recognised this and declared to God YOU ARE RIGHTEOUS O LORD.
Not us–BUT YOU O LORD GOD–ARE RIGHTEOUS.
And that was that.
They declared and left it to God to sort it out.
YOU ARE RIGHTEOUS O GOD…..
By your blood you have triumphed over the enemy.
You are righteous O God!
2 chron 12:12 When he humbled himself, the wrath of the Lord turned from him, so as not to destroy him completely; and things also went well in Judah.
Humbling ourself means we acknowledge our own UNRIGHTEOUSNESS and total inability to do what is right. Humbling self means we declare that in the LORD ALONE I HAVE RIGHTEOUSNESS AND STRENGTH.
When Isaiah prophesied about Cyrus in chapter 45 it was for the great purpose of declaring that God is Saviour of all people
“Look to Me, and be saved,
All you ends of the earth!
For I am God, and there is no other.
23 I have sworn by Myself;
The word has gone out of My mouth in righteousness,
And shall not return,
That to Me every knee shall bow,
Every tongue shall take an oath.
24 He shall say,
[g]‘Surely in the Lord I have righteousness and strength.
To Him men shall come,
And all shall be ashamed
Who are incensed against Him.
25 In the Lord all the descendants of Israel
Shall be justified, and shall glory.’ ”
God wants to bring two opposing sides together into ONE PEOPLE AGAIN.
As we humble ourselves and rely upon God and declare His righteousness He shall do just that.
